Deploying PPE, Medication, Testing Kits & more

Rapid Testing Volunteer Guidelines

Dutch | June 1, 2020

VOLUNTEERS WHO PLAN TO ACCEPT A RAPID-TEST TASK, MUST HAVE READ THIS WHOLE PAGE IN ADVANCE.

IMPORTANT NOTES

If you feel unwell or have been self-isolating due to someone being unwell at home, you must not participate.

If you have an underlying condition making you more vulnerable to the effects of Covid-19 you must not participate.

You also undertake not to disclose the addresses to which you deliver test-kits.

THIS IS A WAIT & RETURN SERVICE.

COLLECT C19 TEST KITS FROM CXH (Fracture Clinic Reception).

DELIVER TO THE SUBJECT.

TEST SUBJECT WILL SWAB WHILE YOU WAIT.

TAKE USED SWAB KIT TO THE LAB BACK AT CXH.

Volunteers will be dispatched from Charing Cross Hospital (CXH) with everything required to safely deliver testing swabs to multiple addresses.

Riders will arrive at the Main Entrance to CXH via Fulham Palace Road and follow directions to the Fracture Clinic – This is your collection point.

Fracture Clinic Access Video HERE.

DEPARTING CXH (Fracture Clinic reception)

Volunteers will leave CXH Fracture Clinic Reception with;

Sample collection box approx. 20cm L, 15cm W, 20cm D with patients name and address, sealed.

PPE for the whole trip.  Disposable gloves are available for riders to take.

When transporting please ensure you keep the swab in a safe, dry place away from extreme heat or cold, do not open or remove anything from the package.

ARRIVING AT EACH ADDRESS

Upon arrival at a destination address, take out the relevant sample box and re-check the address label.

Put on your clean gloves and then your mask, and deliver the sample box to the door (or where you may have been asked to drop).

The household will be expecting the delivery, however you may need to ring the doorbell to get their attention.

Please respect social distancing rules and do not come within the two meters of any patient.

The patient will collect the sample box from the doorstep and will self-administer the test – this should not take any longer than 10-15mins.

Wait whilst the person being tested self-swabs and packages the sample.  Ask the person to place the testing kit on the doorstep and close the door; pick up the testing kit and return to your vehicle.  There is a self-help guide to swab inside the package.

Return to your bike and remove first your gloves and then the mask.

Put the used PPE in a disposable bag provided and this must be kept closed and separate from the clean sample boxes and clean PPE.

Sanitise your hands with alcohol gel before riding to your next delivery destination.

If you prefer, and it is safe for you to do so whilst riding, you can continue to wear your mask for the duration of your trip, instead of changing it for each delivery – this is entirely your decision.

Repeat the process above, at each delivery address until all sample boxes have been delivered.

RETURNING TO CXH (Laboratory Specimen Reception)

On return to CXH you will arrive at the same location where you parked your bikes for sample collection – however you are now heading to Laboratory Specimen Reception, which is opposite the Fracture Clinic by the zebra crossing.

Laboratory Access Video HERE.

Go through the automatic doors and then immediately left through the doors to the first floor – go through the double doors turn left past the shop and around the central lift block to the East Wing Laboratory Specimen Reception. (All sign posted) down the corridor and you will see the sign for reception to the right.

Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

Ride home, wearing a huge grin, with a fuzzy warm feeling of pure joy, knowing you did something good in the fight against Covid-19.

Thank you.
